I want to be able to communicate with my baby. She is learning about her body and trying to control her limbs. The first way she communicates is by doing things that are instinctual. Baby instincts include making the 5 baby noises. But before the baby makes these noises they will do things like stick out their tongue if they are hungry or want comfort by suckling. I don’t know about your baby but mine gets red in the eyes and yawns if she starts to get tired. Also, her head will get hot if she is needing to sleep. To indicate discomfort babies toss and turn and look for comfort before crying. My child will do this while she is still sleeping and as a last resort will cry to let me know she needs help. Pooping is special because they don’t know why or what is happening at first. I try to pay attention to cues but by the time I hear grunts it is too late. Discomfort before poops is usually the first sign I look for and guess about the need for the toilet. and the last noise is the I need to burp noise. This comes in very handy when going through the check list of why is my baby unhappy.
I have been putting my baby over a pot of some sort since she was born. When I pee she is there with me on her own pot for collecting anything that may come out. at this time I sign change to indicate changing a diaper so she is clean but I am also trying to make the connection between the change sign and going to the toilet. Our baby is 4 month and 4 days old and is indicating her need for the toilet by signing change. Now she is only 4 months old and I don’t always catch these signs so we are by no means potty trained. She can’t even walk yet let alone pull her pants down to go on the pot. My 4 month old is starting to babble and is trying to communicate her needs.
The reason I want to teach to sign so soon is because I want her to be able to communicate. I would rather she communicates her needs sooner than later to avoid a lot of crying and frustration from both of us.
That is why I would like to get the baby signing time collection from two little hands productions.
We’ve already got the toilet bit down for now 😉 Also the milk sign.
