Danny got an opportunity to go on a last minute trip to Krabi, Thailand. We weren’t planning on going away for this mid-term break so we didn’t have plans booked. Everybody else that also has mid-term break have gone on a trip. So, we said yes to the packaged trip to Krabi. We went on a 4 island tour on our 2nd day.
The First Day I managed to get sun burnt. I don’t normally go in the sun all day and if I do I usually apply sunscreen. I remembered lather Danny with suncream but forgot to do my own neck. I was wearing a UV shirt. The UV shirt totally works! But not on the areas that aren’t covered.
Man, I changed colours. I went from pale white to bright red.
We chatted with some nice people from Wales. They took a picture for us.
We got some really yummy food. As you can see I was a bit hungry before I took this photo.
Danny really likes all the monkeys in Thailand. He thinks that England should start having monkeys running around free in the cities.
After lunch we went on a boat trip to RaiLay Beach. Next time we will get kayaks and go to the beach next to RaiLay.
They don’t tell you, when you buy the 100 baht-each person-each way-ticket, that the boat doesn’t go until there are 8 people with tickets. And there is more than one company so you can’t just go with the boat that is there already. So you might have to wait for more people and you don’t get a private trip, unless you want to pay for a private boat. I wasn’t impressed by the person who started smoking beside me. There is a baby in that group too. I moved to the front of the boat to get away from the smoke. Because I can’t just toss people overboard.
I decided I needed a nap. We did wake up at at 4:20 am that morning.
On the way back we had to wait 20 minutes for the 7th and 8th person so we could get our boat back to the beach back to our hotel. Other people had to wait twice as long for the same boat.
In the early evening we discovered that I had caught too much sun. My hair and my face matched colours.
We tested our new underwater camera in the pool at the hotel.
I got some vinegar from the kitchen at the hotel. I had to use google translate to get the Thai word for vinegar. Vinegar helps balance the PH in skin when it has been burnt. It changes the burn into a tan instead of the skin flaking off. Despite using vinegar, apparently, over night I continued to cook. I turned bright red before our trip around the islands.
You can see where my UV shirt protected me the day before. It is really bad. I will always remember this and always have a big hat and sunscreen! Take note I got a big hat! and I wore sunscreen too.
I even put my shall over my shoulders for most of the day.
Oh yeah, so when you go on a boat trip unless there is a dock you have to walk out into the water until about waist level before you climb up the later onto the boat. Not pleasant if you have on things you don’t want to get wet. The 4 island boat trip day I wore a swimming suit and tank top. I wore a scarf as a skirt or shall depending on what I wanted to protect.
For some reason I thought we were going to get a private tour to the islands and we were going to be able to come and go as we pleased. This was not the case. We went with a large group of people. We had a scheduled amount of time at each location. It was a good day. The food was yummy. I didn’t have the spicy meat because of my IBS but I had seconds of the noodles.
We walked along the beach trying to find monkeys. We found them but we walked the wrong direction at first.
The monkey was big. I didn’t get as close to it as Danny did.
The underwater camera works. We saw fish and sea urchins. Danny saw some crabs too but I didn’t get a photo of them.
The last beach we went to was so nice. I could have spent the entire two days there. There was a cave that was full of cock shaped driftwood next to a temple that people pray to for when they want something. We took a second and prayed. I also got a photo.
And that is when my camera ran out of batteries. I took a lot of underwater videos. I will add them to youtube when I get some free time next week.
We highly recommend Krabi as a vacation spot during low season. Which is when we went. That might explain why it took so long to get a boat back from RaiLay beach.
On average we spend 600 baht on meals out. If we hadn’t had a packaged trip it would have cost 500 baht to go to the airport each way. Getting essentials were a bit costly if you just got it at the tourist shop. The corner store was ok for prices. Remember to bring a bag to check if you have any liquids over 100 ml. We traveled very light because we only went for two nights. I had to leave water when going through security both ways. There are some very good deals on promo flights. Intact that is how we are going to plan our next vacation. Off to look at promo flights for our next holiday in December.
